Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — Upperclassmen led the Hornets to a 3-2 win over Williamson on Wellsboro’s boys’ soccer Senior Recognition Night here Thursday.

Williamson’s Liam Kies opened the game’s scoring with a goal eight and a half minutes in to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead before seniors David Seeling and Jonathan Carl connected for a Carl score at the 22:32 mark to tie the match up.

Senior Jacoby Strang took a pass from classmate Karter Campbell and scored with 12 and a half minutes remaining in the first half to put the Hornets up 2-1, and the Warriors answered with just over five minutes left until the break when Luca Adriance found the net and the teams went into the locker rooms tied at 2-all.

Strang would hit the eventual game-winning goal with 18 minutes remaining in the game to provide the 3-2 final.

The teams were even with seven shots on goal each while Williamson held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Senior keeper Camden Tom made four saves in goal for the Hornets.

“The boys battled for 80 minutes against a well-coached and very good Williamson team,” said Hornet Head Coach Todd Fitch following the win, “and a win on senior night during the week of homecoming makes the result even sweeter.”

Wellsboro improves to 11-4-1 on the season with the win while Williamson now stands at 10-6. Both teams return to play on Saturday, with the Hornets hosting Montoursville and Williamson on the road at Addison (NY).
