WESTFIELD — Williamson avenged last week’s loss to Athens by beating the Lady Wildcats 6-4 on senior recognition night here Wednesday, qualifying the Lady Warriors for the District 4 Class 2A girls’ soccer playoffs.
Athens scored the first two goals of the game before Williamson rattled off four straight to end the first half up 4-2.
Senior Anna Lee scored off senior Starr Ordway’s indirect kick, senior Maddie Bailey scored on senior Zeraya Wilson’s assist, Wilson found the net on a header off a Bailey helper and Bailey scored again off a Wilson assist to take the 4-2 lead into the break.
Williamson scored twice to start the second half, both on goals by Wilson.
After finding the net on a loose ball fumbled by Athens’ keeper for her second goal of the game, Wilson took a Bailey corner kick and scored her hat trick goal to put the Lady Warriors up 6-2.
Athens added two goals late but Williamson held on for the win.
Williamson out shot Athens 22-16 while the Wildcats had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior keeper Alyvia Morgan made 10 saves in net for Williamson.
“After starting the season with only nine committed girls, multiple dual-sport athletes and no official goal keeper, the season ended better than we expected,” said Head Coach Felicia Hackett, “It was also nice to get to .500 on senior night. I couldn't be more proud!”
The win leaves the Warriors with a 9-9 record and qualifies them for the District 4 playoffs, where they are currently the 9th ranked team.
