NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: 2025-'26 WELLSBORO LADY HORNETS SEASON PREVIEW (2025-11-22)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets are busy in the gym getting prepared for the 2025-’26 girls basketball season, looking to replace significant losses to graduation with a strong core of returners.

Wellsboro finished 6-15 last season, including an 0-10 mark in the large school division and going 2-14 in the league. Gone are both Chloe Brandenburg (14 PPG) and Paige Logsdon (10 PPG), who together scored  over 65% of the Lady Hornets’ points on the season.

Head Coach Maureen Poirier will be looking to a strong group of returning players to replace the lost scoring and help lead a squad that features nine sophomores and four freshmen.

“Our team goals are to mesh as a team, have five girls looking to score and to compete every game,” says Poirier.

Leading the way will be senior Lily Wagner (1.0 PPG, 63 reb., 25 assists, 31 steals) and sophomores Teagan Novinger (6.4 PPG, 168 reb., 14 blocks), Ady Frantz (3.4 PPG, 35 assists, 18 steals, 34 reb.) and Kate Bryant (1.7 PPG).

Poirier points to a pair of newcomers in freshmen Kya Lawton and Lena Rothermel as potential, immediate contributors.

The Lady Hornets have scrimmages scheduled for Monday, November 24th and Saturday, November 29th before opening their season with the first of three straight road games on Friday, December 5th at South Williamsport. After trips to Addison (NY) on December 8th and Northeast Bradford on December 10th, Wellsboro will host Sayre on December 12th for their home opener.
