Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets hosted Northeast Bradford for their home opener Thursday and fell to the undefeated Panthers, 58-50.
NEB took a 14-12 lead into the second quarter and extended their advantage to 20-16 at the half.
Wellsboro rallied for a 23-point third quarter behind 10 Jonathan Carl points, but gave up 22 to the Panthers to cut the lead to 42-39. NEB held the Hornets off with a 16-11 final frame.
Carl led Wellsboro with 14 points and added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Collin Fletcher had 11 points .. including all four Wellsboro points in the second quarter .. and had two steals.
Marek Mascho had eight points, Griffin Morral had seven points and four boards, Ransom Schultz had six points and Luke Rothermel and Ethan Keane had two points each.
Wellsboro (0-2) is scheduled to return to action Saturday when they host Hughesville.
