Northern Tier West Sports ReportWESTFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield held the host Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians to one point in the first quarter and scoreless in the fourth to cruise to a 48-16 season-opening win here Friday night.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 17-1 lead behind 10 points from Kameron Lightner. The senior finished with 23 points to lead Mansfield and had a double-double, grabbing 15 rebounds while adding a blocked shot and three steals.
Lightner scored seven points in the Tigers’ 12-7 second quarter and increased Mansfield’s lead to 29-8 at the break.
CV’s Starr Ordway scored all six of her game points in the third quarter while NPM got four points each from Lightner and Addi Lehman and the Tigers bumped their lead to 41-16 before holding CV scoreless in the final frame and adding seven points to provide the final.
Elaina Shaw scored seven points for NP-Mansfield and added two rebounds and a steal while Julia Kaczynski had six points and four rebounds, Maddy McNamara had six points, four assist and three steals, Addi Lehman had four points, a block and two steals and Iris Irwin chipped in with two points.
Lilah LaBarron led CV with seven points while Arianna Cary had two points and Addy Lanzo had one point.
North Penn-Mansfield (1-0) returns to action Monday when they host South Williamsport, while Cowanesque Valley (0-3) is at Addison (NY), also on Monday.
