Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — The Tigers jumped out to a big first quarter lead and rolled to a 57-36 win over Cowanesque Valley in NTL boys’ basketball play here Tuesday.
Layne Cummings scored seven points early and Jason Harer added six points as Mansfield took a 21-3 lead over the Indians after a quarter of play.
Harer finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers, while Cummings added 13 points in the win.
CV stormed back with an 18-9 second quarter, led by Levi Stahli’s 11 points, and NPM took a 30-21 lead into the break. The Tigers pushed their lead to 38-25 after three quarters and scored 19 points in the final frame to secure the 57-36 win.
Collin Oakes scored six points for NPM while Andy Hermansen had five points, Kevin Clemente-Vazquez had four, Patrick Youmans had three points, Keaton Manikowski had two points and Colton Pellet added one point.
Stahli led the Indians with 18 points while Parker Lee had five points, Carsyn Kemp had four points and Ashtyn Burdick, Joshua Teague and Danny Smith had three points each. Teague added 10 rebounds while Burdick had nine.
North Penn-Mansfield (2-1) hosts Canton on Thursday while CV is home with Athens, also on Thursday.
