HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: WELLSBORO EDGED BY JERSEY SHORE (2026-01-02)

WELLSBORO — The Hornets used a third quarter rally to take a lead on non-league, 4A Jersey Shore here Friday, but a last second bucket by the visiting Bulldogs doomed Wellsboro to a 49-47 loss.

Down 14-5 after the first quarter and 24-15 at the halftime break, Wellsboro got three 3-pointers and 11 points from Colin Fletcher in a 20-10 Hornet third quarter to take a 35-34 edge into the final frame. 

Fletcher hit another three in a back-and-forth fourth quarter and scored five points but Jersey Shore produced their best quarter of the game (15 points) and scored the winning basket with just seconds left.

Fletcher finished with a game-high 16 points and added two assists while Luke Rothermel had nine points and three rebounds in the Hornets’ loss. 

Gideon Lawton and Jonathan Carl had six points each, Ransom Schultz had five points and four rebounds, Marek Mascho had two points and three rebounds, Ethan Keane had two points and two steals and Griffin Morral had one point, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Wellsboro (4-4) returns to action Tuesday when they host Wyalusing (3-3).
