Northern Tier West Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — The Wellsboro girls’ wrestling team competed at Saturday’s Matness at the MACC tournament and earned a handful of medals, highlighted by freshman Riley Kilburn’s title at 170 pounds.
The Lady Hornets finished 15th as a team with 10 points.
After dropping her first two matches .. to Mifflinburg's Lydia Miller (3:22 pin) and Towanda's Adalee Wecker (3:03 pin) .. Kilburn won her next three matches to win gold.
Kilburn pinned Sullivan County's Shaylyne Williams in 3:39 in her third match, then pinned Pine Grove's Violet Krill in 1:34 in her semi-final match. Kilburn faced off against Williams in the championship match, where she recorded a 16 second pin.
In addition to Kilburn's victory, three Lady Hornets brought home 3rd place medals and one 4th place medal.
Sophomores Isla Twoey (100 lbs.) and Katie Whitney (136 lbs.) and freshman Phoebe Bowen (190 lbs.) all placed 3rd.
Twoey won her first match in 3:05 over Sullivan County's Juliana Price, but fell to Central Dauphin's Roshna Rai in her round 3 match. She fell to Upper Perkiomen's Keyra Seville in 1:32 in her semi-final match before pinning Towanda's Kaylee Johnson in 1:33 to take 3rd.
Whitney pinned Line Mountain's Paiton Burgess in 2:31 to win her first match of the day, then followed it up with a 2:27 pin over Upper Perkiomen's Nevaeh Mojica in her second round match. Whitney fell to Montgomery's Zoe Furman (27 second pin) in her 3rd round match and was pinned in 2:52 by Camp Hill's Leighton Sloat in the semi-finals before scoring a 6-4 decision over Pine Grove's Taylor Bast in the 3rd place match.
Bowen opened her day with a 3:20 pin-fall loss to Montgomery's Malayna Beattie before rattling off back-to-back wins. Bowen pinned Line Mountain's Addison Nelson in 1:34 then Mifflinburg's Taylor Stewart in 1:20 before falling to Pine Grove's Rieleigh Purcell in 2:30 in her semi-final match. Bowen then pinned Stewart in 45 seconds to take 3rd.
Sophomore Rosa Sguera finished 0-5 on the day, but still brought home a 4th place medal at 124 pounds, while freshman Peyton Weatherby went 0-4 on the day.
The Lady Hornets are back on the mat at Williamson on Tuesday.
