Northern Tier West Sports ReportLIBERTY — North Penn-Liberty built a steady lead on visiting Cowanesque Valley and downed the Indians 61-45 in an NTL small school match-up here Thursday.
Evan McTish finished with a double-double for the Mounties, with 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Luke Kreger added 14 points, six boards and four assists in the win.
Kreger (5 pts.) and Brody Grinnell (5 pts.) helped Liberty to a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, with Joshua Teague leading the way for CV with seven early points.
McTish (9 pts.) and Kreger (6 pts.) led the Mounties to a 16-8 second frame and NPL went into the break up 31-22.
A 19-16 Liberty third quarter .. featuring seven points each from McTish and Landon Mattern and eight from CV’s Ashtyn Burdick .. extended the Mountie lead to 50-38 before McTish finished his consistent night off with six fourth quarter points to help Liberty seal the win with an 11-7 fourth.
Mattern finished with nine points and six rebounds for Liberty while Grinnell had six points, Conner Lewis had five points, 10 rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot and Sudan Benner rounded out the Mounties’ scoring attack with one point.
Burdick led CV with 13 points while Teague had 12, Levi Stahli and Trevin Hollenbach had seven points each and Parker Lee had six points.
North Penn-Liberty (7-5) and Cowanesque Valley (4-9) are scheduled to meet again on Saturday, at CV.
