Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets lost a defensive battle with Athens, falling 40-27 to the Wildcats in NTL large school boys’ basketball action here Thursday.
Athens held a 6-5 lead after the first quarter, increased their lead to 15-11 at the break and went up 24-15 after three quarters of play.
Jonathan Carl led Wellsboro with nine points and added 13 rebounds and three steals, while Luke Rothermel added six points, 10 boards and two blocked shots.
Colin Fletcher, Ransom Schultz and James Doughtie had two points each and Marek macho, Griffin Morral, Gideon Lawton and Kody Enck had one point each.
Wellsboro (6-6) is scheduled to host St. John Neumann on Monday.
