Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — North Penn-Liberty overcame a slow start against Wellsboro and earned a 44-21 win over the host Lady Hornets in NTL girls’ basketball action here Tuesday.
Wellsboro jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, holding the Lady Mounties scoreless until Haley Litzelman scored inside with 1:30 left in the first quarter.
Down 7-4 after a quarter of play, NPL got back-to-back 3-pointers from Kendall Graham to start the second frame and went on to lead 22-13 at the halftime break.
A 14-7 Liberty third quarter and an 8-1 fourth provided the final.
Litzelman finished with a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds and added four assists and five steals to lead Liberty while Kendall Graham had 16 points and four boards.
Victoria McTish scored five points and had 10 rebounds, Scarlett Graham had four points, three rebounds and two assists and Serena Boiywo had two points, four rebounds and two assists.
Ady Frantz led Wellsboro with nine points while Kate Bryant had six points, Kya Lawton had four points and 13 rebounds and Amelia Hulslander scored two points.
North Penn-Liberty (7-6) and Wellsboro (3-11) both return to play on Thursday .. the Lady Mounties host Wyalusing and the Hornets host Cowanesque Valley.
