NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: STRONG FIRST HALF LIFTS HORNETS TO WIN OVER COWANESQUE VALLEY (2026-01-23)

WESTFIELD — Wellsboro built a steady lead on Cowanesque Valley and held on for a 54-47 win in NTL boys’ basketball play here Friday.

The Hornets took a 20-13 lead after a quarter of play behind 12 early points by Colin Fletcher and increased their lead to 34-21 at the break. 

Joshua Teague led CV to a 9-7 third with six points to cut the Hornets’ lead to 41-30 and scored five points to go along with four points each from Ashtyn Burdick and Reed Vargeson in the final frame, but it wouldn’t be enough as Wellsboro secured the win despite the Indians’ 17-13 advantage.

Fletcher led Wellsboro with 22 points and added seven rebounds and three blocked shots in the win. 

Griffin Morral and James Doughtie scored eight points each while Jonathan Carl had seven points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, Gideon Lawton scored five points and had five assists and five boards and Marek Mascho had four points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Teague led CV with 14 points while Levi Stahli and Ashtyn Burdick had nine points each, Vargeson had six, Parker Lee had five points and Carsyn Kemp and Jacob Johnson had two points each.

Wellsboro snaps a three-game skid with the win and stands at 7-8 on the season while CV drops to 5-12 with their fifth loss in their last six. Both teams are scheduled to return to action on Monday .. the Hornets at home against Troy and the Indians at Northeast Bradford.
