NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY INDIANS '25-'26 SEASON RECAP (2026-03-13)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
WESTFIELD — The Cowanesque Valley boys’ basketball team took advantage of a full returning starting lineup to make a five win improvement from a season ago and qualify for the postseason in 2025-’26.

First year Head Coach Dave Kemp felt his squad was much improved from a season ago, while also acknowledging that the Indians did fall shy of some expectations.

“Overall my team and I felt like this season was successful,” says Kemp, “With a team that has all five starters back from the year before, you’d expect to have a winning season, but we did go from three wins last year to eight this year .. and I felt like we were competitive in almost every game. We qualified for district play where I felt we had a good showing against a very good Muncy team.”

CV finished 8-14 in the regular season, including 6-10 in the NTL and 6-4 in the small school division.

The Indians scored nearly 49 points per game, spread out among Kemp’s experienced lineup.

“We were a fairly balanced team offensively,” says Kemp, “Levi Stahli (10.2 ppg), Ashtyn Burdick (10 ppg) and Josh Teague (8.4 ppg), were our top three scorers. Parker Lee (6.7 ppg) had some good games as well. Carsyn Kemp (3.9 ppg) contributed, but he was always assigned the task of defending the opposing team’s best player and that is a tough task. (Senior) Jacob Johnson (2.7 ppg) always gave me good minutes as the 6th man.”

Senior Stahli added 5.4 rpg, 2.3 apg and 1.6 spg, junior Burdick had 6 rpg, 1.8 apg and 1.9 spg, senior Teague had 6.6 rpg, 2 apg and 1.5 spg, senior Lee had 1.6 spg and 2.3 rpg, senior Kemp had 3.4 rpg and 1.6 apg while freshman Reed Vargeson (3.1 ppg, 1 apg, 1.7 rpg, 1.6 spg) also received valuable playing experience for the Indians.

Coach Kemp and the Indians will be tasked with replacing the bulk of their lineup next season.

“We’ll only have one senior next year unless other players come back out who didn’t play this season,” explains Kemp, “So our juniors and sophomores will be thrown into a lot of action early on. Our plan for the off-season is to get our younger players into the weight room to improve their strength and explosiveness.”
