Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The NTWSR / Laurel Health ‘Athletes of the Week’ are Cowanesque Valley baseball player Hunter Simonds and Wellsboro tennis’ Luke Rothermel.
Senior Hunter Simonds led the Indians to a season-opening 13-5 win over NEB, collecting four base hits with three RBI and two runs scored and pitching the 2nd and 3rd innings, giving up no runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Senior Luke Rothermel went 2-0 as the Hornets opened their season by going 2-1 .. earning a win at No. 1 singles as Wellsboro fell 4-1 to Montoursville and winning his match in the Hornets’ sweep of Hughesville, while getting the day off in their sweep of an undermanned CV squad.
