Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield took a 5-run lead into the 4th inning and led Troy by two in the 7th before the Trojans rallied to pull out a 17-13 comeback win over the Tigers here Tuesday.
Troy scored two runs in their first at-bat, but Mansfield answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. The Trojans plated three more runs in the second inning and Mansfield followed with a big bottom half.
The Tigers batted around their lineup, getting singles from Isaac Sparks, Peyton Greene, Ryder Breon, Jason Harer and Brock Deitrick, walks from Andy Hermansen and Kam House and a double from Collin Oakes to score seven runs in the frame and take a 10-5 lead into the third inning.
Troy and NPM each scored two runs in the third, Troy scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to cut North Penn-Mansfield’s lead to one at 12-11.
The Tigers made it a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth when Noah Musser doubled to score Oakes, who had singled, but Troy rallied in their last at-bat, scoring six runs and then sitting the Mansfield side down in order in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback win.
Harer (2b, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Oakes (2b, 2 RBI, 2 runs) each finished with three base hits, Hermansen (2-2b, 1 RBI, 3 runs) and Sparks (1 run) each had two and Musser (2b, 2 RBI), Breon (2 runs), Deitrick, House (2 runs) and Greene (1 RBI, 1 run) each had one base hit.
Greene started on the mound for Mansfield and went one inning, allowing five runs (3 earned) on four walks. Breon threw the next four innings, giving up five runs (4 earned) on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Harer took the loss for the Tigers, pitching an inning and a third and allowing six earned runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Hermansen allowed an earned run on a hit and two walks in a third of an inning and Oakes also retired one batter.
North Penn-Mansfield (1-2) is scheduled to return to play on Thursday at Athens.
