Northern Tier West Sports ReportWESTFIELD — Cowanesque Valley returned to play after a week off and downed the visiting North Penn-Mansfield Tigers 4-1 to remain unbeaten on the season at 6-0.
The Indians scored first, plating a run in the second inning when Ayren Morgan singled and would later score on a Mansfield error off the bat of Hunter Simonds.
CV made it 4-0 with a 3-run fourth frame, as Danny Smith doubled, Morgan singled and William Kies reached on a bunt single that the Tigers misplayed, allowing Smith and Morgan to score. Dave Hess would plate Kies on another Mansfield error, one of six in the game for the Tigers.
North Penn-Mansfield scored their lone run in the top of the fifth when Ryder Breon reached base on an error and scored on a miscue by CV off the bat of Jason Harer. The Indians also committed six errors in the game.
Morgan started on the mound for Cowanesque Valley and went three and two-third innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out two. Simonds pitched an inning and a third and gave up an unearned run on a walk with one strikeout and Levi Stahli threw the final two frames, giving up one hit and striking out three.
Kam House, Brock Deitrick and Isaac Sparks had Mansfield’s hits.
Noah Musser started and went three innings for the Tigers, allowing three runs (2 earned) on five CV hits with three Ks. Harer pitched an inning and gave up a hit and a walk with one strikeout and Andy Hermansen threw two innings and allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.
CV (6-0) is at Wyalusing on Thursday while North Penn-Mansfield (1-4) is at Canton.
