Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — North Penn-Mansfield made a late comeback attempt but came up shy, falling 4-3 to the host Athens Wildcats in NTL large school baseball action here Saturday.
After three and a half scoreless innings, Athens plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth and went up 4-0 in the fifth.
With two outs in the top of the sixth, the Tigers got singles from Collin Oakes, Peyton Greene and Jason Harer, whose hit scored Oakes. Ryder Breon walked to load the bases and Greene scored on a passed ball before Isaac Sparks walked.
Noah Musser singled to score Harer and make it 4-3, but Athen’s got out of the inning with a strikeout to end the Tigers’ comeback attempt.
Oakes finished with two base hits, with a double and a run scored, Harer had a hit, an RBI and scored, Musser had a hit and an RBI and Greene had a hit and scored a run.
Harer took the loss, starting and going five innings and giving up four earned runs on eight Athens’ base hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Breon threw the final inning and recorded three straight outs.
North Penn-Mansfield (3-6) is scheduled to visit Towanda on Tuesday.
