Northern Tier West Sports ReportBLOOMSBURG — Wellsboro senior Luke Rothermel won his opening match at the District IV boys’ tennis playoffs here Monday and was eliminated after a quarterfinal loss later in the day.
Rothermel, the No. 6 seed in the individual championships, beat Jersey Shore’s Ezra Paulhamus 6-4, 6-4 to move onto the quarterfinals. There he fell 6-1, 6-0 to Danville’s David Sommer, the No. 3 seed.
Junior Mason Brill also qualified for Districts and won his first set 7-5 against Bloomsburg’s Marc-Alexi Dobbins but fell 7-5 and 6-3 to be eliminated.
North Penn-Liberty’s Ray Nickerson also competed, losing 6-0, 6-2 to Hughesville’s Kevin Bobak.
