Northern Tier West Sports Report
EAST TROY — In their regular season finale, Cowanesque Valley lost a 4-run lead in the 5th inning, tied the game up in the 7th but would eventually fall to the host Trojans, 8-7, in the bottom of the 9th.

The Indians scored two runs in their first at-bat as Dave Hess reached on an error, Ayren Morgan singled him home and Lucas Hamilton drove Morgan in with a single for an early  2-0 lead.

The Trojans answered with two runs in the bottom of the first before CV retook the lead in the 2nd frame when Gavin Churchill doubled and came home on a William Kies single to put the Indians up 3-2.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Cowanesque Valley used base hits from Hess, Levi Stahli, Hunter Simonds and Brody Bruce and a Trojan error off Churchill’s bat to score three runs and take a 6-2 lead that held until the bottom of the 6th.

Troy rallied for a five-run 6th inning to take a 7-6 lead.

In the top of the 7th, Hamilton reached base on a Troy error and Max Millard came in to run. After Simonds walked and Millard reached third base on a Trojan error, Millard would score on a passed ball to tie the game up and send it to extra innings.

In the bottom of the 9th, Troy drew a leadoff walk and after a pair of sacrifices, scored the winning run on a base hit by Reed Palmer.

The Indians out-hit Troy 14-10 in the loss as Kies (1 rbi) had three hits, Churchill (2b, 1 run), Hess (2 runs), Morgan (1 rbi, 1 run) and Levi Stahli (1 rbi) had two each. Hamilton (1 rbi), Bruce (1 rbi) and Simonds (1 run) had a hit each and Millard scored a run.

Cam Stahli started on the mound for CV and went two and a third innings, allowing two runs (1 earned) on two Troy hits and two walks with one strikeout. Simonds pitched two-thirds of an inning and walked one with one K, Danny Smith threw two innings and gave up five runs (3 earned) on four hits and three walks with a strikeout, Hess went three innings and gave up three hits and a walk and Morgan threw the final two-thirds of an inning and was tagged with the loss after giving up the earned run on a hit and a walk.

Cowanesque Valley finishes the regular season 16-3, if a postponed game from earlier in the season against Coudersport isn’t made up.
