TIOGA COUNTY — The NTWSR / Laurel Health ‘Athletes of the Week’ are Wellsboro Track & Field’s Lauren Kosek and Piper Hoprich, Wellsboro softball’s Ady Frantz, North Penn-Mansfield thrower Deakon Valentine and Tiger baseball player Brock Dietrick.

The Wellsboro girls Track & Field team won the title at Friday’s NTL Championships behind seven event wins .. including three each by Kosek and Hoprich.
Kosek won the 800m run (2:23.16), the 1600m run (5:16.74) and the 3200m (11:42.32) while Hoprich won the 100m (12.14) and 200m (25.04) dashes and was on the winning 4x100m relay team (50.48).

Frantz led Wellsboro to a 2-0 week and into the District playoffs and broke the Lady Hornets’ season strikeout record.
In a 7-3 win over NEB, Frantz struck out 13 and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. In Wellsboro’s playoff-clinching, 11-4 win over Wyalusing, Frantz had 12 strikeouts and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.

The North Penn-Mansfield boys won the NTL Championship meet on Friday, led by Valentine’s two event wins .. in the javelin (167-9) and the discus (151-2) .. and his 5th place finish in the shot put (42-0.5).

Dietrick hit .600 to help North Penn-Mansfield to a 3-0 week and an 8-1 lead in a suspended game.
In a 3-1 win over NEB Dietrick went 1-for-3, while the Tigers’ catcher went 2-for-3 with three RBI in an 11-1 win over Williamson, went 2-for-3 with an RBI in NPM’s 10-3 Game One win over Northern Potter and was 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored as the Tigers built an 8-1 lead over NoPo in their suspended Game Two.
