Northern Tier West Sports ReportMILTON — Wellsboro followed up a strong Day 1 showing at the District IV Track & Field Championships with an even more impressive Day 2 on Saturday .. collecting three event titles, 15 medals and seven more state qualifying performances.
Piper Hoprich won the 100m (12.17) and 200m (25.22) dash titles and added a state qualifying time in the Lady Hornets’ 3rd-place finish in the 4x100m relay (49.94). Hoprich’s 4x100m teammates were Luna Moyer, Paige Rush and Sophia Yoder.
Jonathan Carl won the boys’ 400m title (49.56), while David Seeling made States with his 3rd place finish in the high jump (6-3) and Henry Whitney ran a State qualifying time (4:24.63) in his 6th place finish in the 1600m run.
Lauren Kosek was the runner-up in the 1600m run (5:00.04), adding a State berth to her 3200m qualifying time from Thursday.
Kosek also earned a 4th place medal in the 800m (2:22.18), while Moyer placed 5th in the 100m dash (13.01) and 7th in the 200m (27.35).
Seeling won a 5th-place medal in the triple jump (41-10.75), Isla Twoey earned a pair of medals, placing 6th in the 300m hurdles (48.27) and 7th in the triple jump (34-04.50), Brayden Benjamin placed 7th in the 110m hurdles (16.79) and Jude Cuneo rounded up the Hornets’ medal haul with a 7th-place finish in the 800m run (1:59.97).
The boys’ 4x100m relay (Liam Stevens, Jacoby Strang, Aaron Kirk, Lecker) finished 9th (45.43), the 4x400m relay (Kirk, Max Macias, Henry Whitney, Seeling) was 12th (3:41.98), Macias was 20th in the 1600m (4:47.66), Kirk was 20th in the 400m (55.05) and Carl was 20th in the 200m (24.57).
Kristina Belz was 12th in the high jump (4-8) and 14th in the triple jump (32-8.00), the girls’ 4x400m relay (Lauren Kosek, Kaci Kosek, Rush, Hoprich) was 13th (4:27.51), Yoder was 14th in the 200m (27.96), Lauren Gehman was 17th in the triple jump (30-10.75) and Piper Perry was 22nd in the 300m hurdles (52.95).
The Hornets qualified 10 athletes total for the State Championships in Shippensburg next week, in nine events.
