Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets extended their winning streak to 14 games in their first round District IV 3A playoff game here Tuesday, rolling to an 11-1 win over visiting Bloomsburg.
Wellsboro scored in the first inning as Griffin Morral singled and scored on a Marek Mascho base hit to go up 1-0.
In the second frame, Cameron Owlett singled and Gage Baltzley walked. Both scored on Reed Richardson’s double and the Hornets led 3-0.
Wellsboro went on a two-out rally in the third inning, scoring five runs on walks by Morral and Gabe Cuneo, singles from Richardson and Kody Enck and a pair of Bloomsburg errors off the bats of Baltzley and Marek Mascho.
The Hornets made it 9-0 in the fourth when Enck drove in Cameron Owlett .. who had reached base on a fielder’s choice .. with a single. Bloom scored their lone run in the top of the fifth and the Hornets needed two runs to end the game early.
Cuneo reached on an error and Marek Mascho singled before Coen Tennis delivered the game-ending double to score both runners to seal the 11-1 win.
Max Mascho threw all five innings for the Hornets to earn the win, allowing one earned run on five Bloomsburg hits and a walk while striking out nine.
The Hornets racked up 11 base hits in the win. Marek Mascho led the way with three hits and added an RBI and a run scored, while Richardson had two hits, three RBI and a run scored and Enck had two hits, two RBI and scored.
Tennis had a double and two RBI, Morral, Owlett and Baltzley each had a hit and scored twice and Cuneo had two runs scored.
Wellsboro, now 18-2 on the season, advances to the Class 3A semifinals with the win. The Hornets will host No. 4 seed Warrior Run .. 6-3 winners over No. 5 seed Troy .. on Friday at Mansfield University at 4:30 p.m.
