Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — The North Penn-Mansfield baseball team experienced a huge turnover from last season, needing to replace five 2025 All-Tioga County team members including Player of the Year Alex Davis, and the Tigers took advantage of the opportunity to initiate several underclassmen into their lineup while being led by their few returning standouts.
The Tigers lost Davis, ’25 First Team members Cooper Shaw and Easton Pequignot and Second Team players Liam Shaut and Riley Pequignot to graduation.
Lone returning seniors Andy Hermansen and Jason Harer, along with juniors Collin Oakes and Brock Deitrick, led the way for the 8-12 Tigers in ’26, helping Head Coach Rob Davis work a number of underclassmen into the mix.
Mansfield lost 12 games in 2026. Six of those losses came by three or less runs and four were by a single run, including one run defeats to both NTL Large School co-champs, Wellsboro (8-7) and Athens (4-3).
Hermansen had an MVP-worthy senior season for Mansfield, batting .475 with 28 base hits .. including nine doubles, three triples and two home runs .. with 14 RBI, 29 runs scored, 22 stolen bases and a .569 on-base-percentage.
The Tigers’ everyday center fielder also went 2-0 on the mound, throwing 18 and two-third innings with a 3.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
One of the rookies that Coach Davis looked to for and got immediate production from was freshman shortstop Ryder Breon. Second on the team with 22 hits .. including a double and a triple .. Breon hit .338 on the season and added 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and a .403 OBP while also pitching 16 innings with 15 K’s in his initial varsity campaign.
Hermansen’s lone classmate, Jason Harer, was often tasked with pitching against the Tigers’ toughest opponents and his 1-4 record and 8.20 ERA over 13 and two-third innings of work with 18 strikeouts was a reflection of that.
At the plate, Harer hit .339 on the season with 20 base hits, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored, a .373 OBP and six stolen bases.
Juniors Collin Oakes and Brock Dietrick provided returning experience for North Penn-Mansfield, with Oakes manning second base and hitting .328 with a .438 OBP, 19 base hits, 20 runs scored, 11 RBI and six stolen bases and Dietrick taking over behind the plate for the Tigers and batting .326 with 15 hits, including five doubles, and adding 11 runs scored, five RBI and a .439 OBP.
Sophomores Isaac Sparks (36 1/3 IP, 1-4 record, 2.70 ERA, 42 K) and Noah Musser (23 IP, 3-1 record, 1 save, 1.52 ERA, 33 K) logged the most innings on the mound for the Tigers.
At the plate, Sparks hit .288 with 15 hits, 12 runs scored, three RBI, a .383 OBP and nine stolen bases, while Musser hit .242 with 15 base hits, eight RBI, six runs scored and four stolen bases.
Freshmen Kam House and Peyton Greene received valuable playing time during the season as House collected 11 base hits and hit .244 with seven RBI and seven runs scored and Greene batted .281 with nine hits, seven runs scored and three RBI.
While North Penn-Mansfield’s youth and inexperience showed throughout the season, their leadership and improvement also was evident, especially in their 5-2 finish after a 3-10 start.
