NTWSR 'TOP 10' MALE ATHLETES OF THE SPRING (2026-07-05)

TIOGA COUNTY — There was no shortage of outstanding performances put forth by Tioga County boys during this past sports season and the NTWSR recognizes them with the ’Top 10’ Male Athletes of the Spring.

The list includes Track & Field standouts David Seeling from Wellsboro and Luke Kreger, Michael Knefley and Colton Pellett from North Penn-Mansfield, tennis players Mason Brill and Luke Rothermel from Wellsboro and baseball players Marek Mascho and Coen Tennis from Wellsboro, Dave Hess from Cowanesque Valley and Andy Hermansen from North Penn-Mansfield.

Senior David Seeling was named the boys’ T&F ‘Athlete of the Year’ after winning the 110m and 300m hurdles, placing 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the triple jump at the NTL Invite .. earning three medals at Districts, including a 3rd place in the high jump, 5th in the triple jump and 6th in the 4x800m relay. 
Seeling, Jude Cuneo, Henry Whitney and Max Macias then earned the All-Tioga County ‘Relay of the Year’ nod with a 6th-place state medal in the 4x800 at the PIAA Championships.

Michael Knefley, the All-Tioga County ‘Track Athlete of the Year’, helped the Tigers to a title at the NTL meet with a win in the 1600m, a 3rd-place finish in the 3200, a 4th-place in the 800 and a runner-up finish in the 4x800m relay. The junior then earned three District IV medals, taking 7th in the 1600, 6th with his 4x400m relay and 4th with the 4x800 squad along with Sudan Benner, Peter Bishop and Braden VanLoon, who qualified for the State Championships and finished 12th.

Marek Mascho led the Hornets to a 14-1 league record, an 18-3 overall mark and a share of the NTL Large School title. The senior collected 36 base hits .. including 10 doubles and a home run .. while batting .456 with 35 runs scored, 27 runs-batted-in, eight stolen bases and a .500 on-base-percentage. On the mound, Mascho went 3-1 over 26 innings of work with a 5.19 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

Luke Kreger, a senior, and Colton Pellett, a junior, were key to the Tigers’ league championship, with Kreger winning the high jump and taking 2nd in the long jump at the NTL meet, Pellett taking 3rd in the high jump and 4th in both the triple and long jumps and the two combining with Sudan Benner and Brody Grinnell to win the 4x100m relay. 
Pellett won a District championship in the high jump while Kreger was 4th and both earned a 5th-place medal in the 4x100. 
At States, Kreger earned the Tigers’ lone medal after tying for 8th in the high jump while Pellett finished 24th.

Junior Dave Hess led Cowanesque Valley to a repeat small school title and hit .392 with 29 base hits (3-3b, 5-2b), 32 runs scored, 21 RBI, 30 stolen bases and a.434 OBP; pitched 24 innings and went 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

The Wellsboro boys’ tennis team went unbeaten in the league to win the NTL title and the Hornets’ No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, senior Luke Rothermel and junior Mason Brill, were named All-Tioga County ‘Co-Players of the Year’.

Andy Hermansen was named the All-Tioga County Baseball ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ and hit .475 for the 8-12 Tigers with 29 base hits .. including two home runs, three triples and nine doubles .. and added 29 runs scored, 22 stolen bases, 14 RBI and got on base at a .569 clip. The senior also went 2-0 from the mound, throwing 19 innings with a 3.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

Wellsboro catcher Coen Tennis repeated as the All-Tioga County Baseball ‘Defensive Player of the Year’, committing a single error and allowing just over a stolen base per game throughout the Hornets’ championship season. The junior backstop hit .463 with 31 hits .. including three home runs, a triple and five doubles .. 31 RBI, 21 runs scored and a .537 OBP.
