Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — North Penn-Liberty won their first volleyball match of the season here Thursday, edging Athens 3-2 in a five-set thriller.
The Lady Mounties won the first set 25-20 before Athens rallied to take the next two .. 26-24 and 25-23. NPL came back to win the fourth set 25-17 and in the fifth, sealed the victory with a 16-14 win.
Maddison Smith collected 29 assists, 22 digs and three blocks for the Mounties, while Lilly McNamara had 19 digs and 16 kills.
Maddie McNamara had 33 digs, a kill and an assists, Gabby Bubeck had 14 digs and six kills, Vicki McTish had nine kills, seven blocks and four digs, Kendall Graham had seven blocks, four digs and a kill and Elaina Shaw had six digs, two blocks and a kill.
North Penn-Liberty (1-2) is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at Williamson.
