Northern Tier West Sports ReportTOWANDA — Wellsboro got a hat trick from Haylie Smith and the Lady Hornets topped Towanda 4-1 in an NTL girls’ soccer match-up here Tuesday.
Smith opened the scoring with a goal she put in off a Kate Bryant corner kick eight minutes into the game and made it 2-0 at the 16 minute mark on a converted penalty kick.
Bryant made it 3-0 Wellsboro as the clock ran out in the first half.
Towanda scored in the second half but Smith completed her hat trick with a goal off another Bryant corner kick to seal the Hornet win.
Wellsboro outshot Towanda 13-4, had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks and keepers Jadyn Dunlap and Carly Blackwell had two saves each while Olive Twoey had one.
The Lady Hornets (7-2-1) are scheduled to return to action Thursday when they host Northeast Bradford.
