Northern Tier West Sports ReportTROY — Cowanesque Valley fell behind three-time defending league champ Troy early and fell 60-27 .. giving the Trojans their fourth straight NTL football title.
The Trojans built a 34-0 lead early into the second quarter before CV got on the scoreboard, as Max Millard scored from 17 yards out with 6:46 left before the break. The Trojans tacked on a TD with 3:26 remaining and led 40-6 at the half.
Troy rushed for 334-yards on 43 carries while the Indians managed 148 yards on the ground, led by Millard’s 71 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.
Colten Begley added 33 yards on two carries, Gavin Churchill had five rushes for 26 yards and Dave Hess had six rushes for seven yards and a score.
Churchill went 5-for-10 for 135 yards, a score and two picks and Hess was 4-for-9 for 36 yards with an interception.
Hess had three catches for 112 yards and a score, Cam Stahli caught five balls good for 38 yards, Max Millard had one catch for 18 yards and Churchill had one for three yards.
Troy reached the mercy rule with a kick-off return TD to start the third quarter, going up 47-6.
Churchill would find Hess for a 78-yard touchdown strike with 5:08 left in the third. The extra point snap landed in kicker Mason Wonderlich’s hands and the freshman ran it in for the two-point conversion to make it 47-14.
Troy scored again with 32 seconds left in the third for a 53-14 lead after three quarters of play.
Hess scored on an 11-yard run to open the fourth quarter with Wonderlich hitting the point after to make it 53-21 and Troy finished off their scoring with 3:06 remaining to hit the 60-point mark.
On the final play of the game, Millard had a 41-yard run to pay dirt to provide the 60-27 final.
CV (2-5) is scheduled to host South Williamsport next Friday night.
