NTL WRESTLING: MOUNTIES SPLIT PAIR OF DUAL MEETS (2022-01-26)
By Lance LarcomNorthern Tier West Sports ReportBLOSSBURG — North Penn-Liberty split a pair of dual meets here Wednesday, winning the only contested match in a 54-6 win over Sayre before surrendering four forfeits and four pins in a 52-18 loss to NTL front-runner Canton.
Against Sayre, Gaven Sexauer pinned Joshua Wilson in 3:08 at 189 pounds.
The Canton meet started at 172 pounds, where Kohen Lehman picked up a major decision over Canton’s Brenen Taylor, 11-1.
Sexauer, who, along with fellow senior Sophia Domenech was honored before the match as the Mounties lone seniors, then excited the home crowd with a big upset of Canton’s Riley Parker at 189 pounds.
Last season’s sectional champ and sixth-place finisher at Districts at 160 pounds, Parker came into the match at 15-4 and took a 5-1 lead into the third period. Sexauer was able to avoid Parker’s lateral drop attempt and the Mountie senior locked Parker up and got the fall in 4:45.
106-pounder Brayden Pequignot gave the Mounties three team points with his 8-4 decision over Canton’s Lyle Vermilya, and Cale Wagner rounded out NP-Liberty’s scoring with a technical fall over Cayden Miller at 120 pounds.
The Mounties gave up forfeits at 285 pounds, 132, 138 and 145. Canton recorded four falls and a major decision in the remaining contested weights.
