PIAA NORTHEAST REGION WRESTLING: LEHMAN QUALIFIES FOR STATES WITH FOURTH-PLACE FINISH (March 5, 2022)By Lance LarcomNorthern Tier West Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — North Penn-Liberty’s Kohen Lehman placed fourth in the 172-pound class at the PIAA Northeast Region wrestling championships on Saturday, qualifying the junior for a berth in next weekend’s State Championships in Hershey.
Last week at Districts, Lehman fell to Lear in 3:13 at the same point in the tournament .. the semis. This time around, Lehman was more prepared for the eventual Regional runner-up’s aggressive style, and matched it. Lear again earned a fall, in 3:28, but there was a noticeable difference in Lehman’s performance.
Lehman dropped into the consolations with the loss, where he faced Lackawanna Trail senior Tyler Rozanski. The District 2 runner-up had lost to Canton’s Riley Parker 8-3 in the quarterfinals.
Lehman got the fall in 4:52, guaranteeing him a spot in Hershey next week with a chance to wrestle for 3rd-4th place in the consolation finals. Like the last two weeks, Lehman again faced Canton’s Parker.
Parker earned a 3-2 win to claim third place, giving Lehman fourth place and a return trip to State competition.
Lehman is now a two-time State qualifier. As a sophomore last season, Lehman qualified for the State’s “Super Regional” .. an adjusted format of the State Tournament that resulted from Covid implications.
Look for a preview of Lehman’s 172-pound class at States in the coming days, where he will likely open the tournament with a match-up against a Southwest or Southeast fifth or sixth-place finisher.
