NTL SOFTBALL: LADY INDIANS TOP WILLIAMSON FOR 13TH WIN (May 5, 2022)Northern Tier West Sports ReportWESTFIELD — Cowanesque Valley used timely hitting to build a lead and Megan Hyde threw a gem from the circle as the Lady Indians topped Williamson here Thursday, 9-0.
Hyde was perfect through four innings .. not allowing a Williamson baserunner until Kaylee Sargent and Peyton Blend each reached first on CV errors in the top of the fifth. Hyde would get two strikeouts and a groundout to strand the Lady Warrior runners.
After a scoreless first inning, Logan Hamilton led off the bottom of the second for CV with a single. Ashley Woodring and Keyana Thomas each reached first on bunts to load the bases, before a Hyde single, a double by Tabby Piper and a single by Maddie Millard gave the Indians a 5-0 lead.
Cowanesque Valley added a run in the third .. on a Ruby Sherman bunt single and another RBI base hit from Hyde .. and two more in the fourth .. on singles from Millard, Madison Hoopes and Sherman and a pair of Williamson errors .. to give the Lady Indians an 8-0 lead.
Woodring would complete the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Kaylee Sargent delivered a single for Williamson, breaking up Hyde’s no-hit bid.
Hyde finished with a complete-game shutout, allowing just the one Williamson hit, with no walks and 12 strikeouts. She twice struck of the Lady Warriors’ side .. in the second inning and again in the fourth.
Millard finished with three hits in the game, adding an RBI, while Woodring had a pair of hits, including a HR, two RBI and three runs scored.
Piper had two hits, with a double, and added two RBI and a run scored, and Hyde had two hits, three RBI and scored once. Sherman had a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Hoopes, Hamilton and Thomas each had a base hit and scored a run for the Lady Indians.
Mikenna Buchanan took the loss for Williamson, throwing six innings and allowing nine runs on 14 hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
The Lady Warriors fall to 3-12 with the loss. They are scheduled to host Canton Monday.
Cowanesque Valley is now 13-3 on the season. They are scheduled to return to action Monday when they visit winless Sayre.
