Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — There were a number of young athletes that had instant impacts on their teams during their first varsity action this Spring, none more so than our All-Tioga County Male Newcomer of the Spring, North Penn-Mansfield baseball player Alex Davis.

Male Newcomer of the Spring
Alex Davis, NP-Mansfield baseball, freshman
Davis’ freshman campaign included a .438 batting average and a .509 on-base-percentage. He collected 21 hits, including 10 doubles and a home run, lifting his slugging percentage to .708, and added 17 runs scored, 24 RBI, 11 stolen bases, five walks and went 1-1 on the mound, throwing 13 innings with a 3.23 ERA and eight K’s.

Remaining Super 7 Male Newcomers of the Spring

Aiden Gehman, Wellsboro T & F, junior
Gehman decided to compete for the Hornets this season for the first time, as a junior, and the rookie jumper recorded leaps of over 40 feet in the triple jump and 20 feet in the long jump in just his second meet ever, at the Lock Haven Invite. Gehman set a PR of 42-03.75 in the triple jump at Lock Haven, placed 2nd at the NTL Championships and finished 11th at the District IV meet. His PR of 20-04.75 in the long jump followed a 5th place finish at Lock Haven, a 5th place finish at the NTL meet and just out of the medals at Districts, where he finished 9th. The Hornet also competed in the high jump, where he set a first-year PR of 5-06.

Caden Smith, Wellsboro baseball, sophomore
Smith took over catching duties for the 13-5-1 Hornets this season, and midway through the season was tasked with being Wellsboro’s leadoff hitter. He batted .457, had a .525 on-base-percentage and had a league-leading 32 base hits, scored 30 runs and added 19 RBI, 10 walks and 9 stolen bases. On the mound, Smith threw 12 innings and went 1-1 with 5 K’s.

Daniel Harman, North Penn-Liberty Tennis, sophomore
Harman played in the No. 1 singles spot for the 0-11 Mounties, going 3-8 against each opposing team’s top player in his first season of competition.

Brady Stetter, North Penn-Mansfield T & F, freshman
Stetter competed in a number of events for the Tigers and improved throughout his freshman season in each, but stood out the most in long jump. After a 13th place finish at the Molly Dry Invite with a jump of 17-01.5, Stetter recorded a 19-07.5 at the NTL Championships, good for 5th place and a spot in Districts. There, he’d finish 20th with a jump of 18-02.5. In the high jump, Stetter cleared 5-00 at the Molly Dry, eventually jumping 5-02 at the NTL’s, and he was a member of the Tigers’ 4x100 meter relay team that just missed a District IV medal with a 10th place finish.

Loagan Stickler, Williamson baseball, freshman
Stickler was pivotal to the Warriors’ rebuilding season, batting .424 with a .446 OBP, 25 hits, 16 runs, 6-2B, 1-3B, 1 HR and 14 RBI.
