NORTHERN TIER WEST SPORTS REPORT: WELLSBORO'S COOLIDGE HEADLINES SUPER 7 FEMALE ATHLETES OF THE YEAR (2022-06-23)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Wellsboro senior Emma Coolidge was a NTWSR first-team midfielder for her Hornets’ soccer squad, led her basketball team into the District IV playoffs and was named Player and Defensive Player of the Year, racked up some gaudy offensive numbers for the Lady Hornet softball team, won an NTL shot put title and is our 2021-22 All-Tioga County Female “Athlete of the Year”.

Coolidge was a steady force in the middle for a Lady Hornets’ soccer club that struggled to score, tallying just six goals and finishing the season with two wins. The senior leader continued her strong, defensive presence into basketball season, taking on the opposing team’s top player on most nights. Coolidge was named both the NTWSR’s Player of the Year, and the Defensive Player of the Year. She scored 11.1 points per game, grabbed 7.5 rebounds per game and had 74 assists and 74 steals on the season for the 11-11 Lady Hornets.

Coolidge pulled double-duty in the Spring, racking up some impressive numbers from the plate for the 7-13 Hornets .. .510 BA, .579 OBP, .878 SLG%, 25 hits, 21 runs, 5 HR, 18 RBI, 6 BB, 3 K .. while playing multiple positions in the field, and also served as the Track & Field teams’ best thrower. After winning an NTL title in the shot put, as well as a runner-up finish in the javelin, Coolidge placed 10th in the javelin at the District IV Championships.

Coolidge will be continuing her academic and her basketball career at Juniata College in the Fall.
