Tyler Melko, a first baseman on the Mansfield University baseball team, is off to a solid start in his senior season.
Melko, who transferred in from Post University and started his collegiate career at Northampton CC, has six hits in 26 at-bats, with five walks, five RBI and three runs scored in the Mounties first seven games.
On March 7 against Jefferson, Melko had a home run, a double and a walk in five plate appearances. He collected four RBI and scored a run in the Mounties’ 7-5 win.
In a double-header Friday, Melko had two singles, walked, scored a run and drove in a run as Mansfield split with West Chester.
Saturday, in a pair of losses to West Chester, Melko collected a hit, two walks and scored a run.
Mansfield, now 2-6 on the season, returns to action Friday March 19 in a doubleheader at East Stroudsburg, then will host the Warriors for a twin-bill on Saturday at Shaute Field.
