ON TAP TODAY: A LOOK AT TODAY'S SCHEDULE IN THE WEST (2021-04-26)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
THE WEST — Most NTL teams have passed the halfway point for the Spring sports season and, starting today, baseball and softball teams from the West will get a pair of NTL large school/small school crossover games this week before some key divisional match-ups on Friday.

Here’s what’s on tap for today in the West.

BASEBALL
Large-school leader Wellsboro (4-1, 6-4) hosts small-school frontrunner Sayre (4-0, 8-0). The Hornets snapped a two-game skid of losing by one run with a 17-0 thumping of NEB, while Sayre is averaging over 16 runs per game and allowing only three but struggled against 3-5 Troy in their last game.

NP-Mansfield (2-2, 6-3-1) has won four straight and they’ll host small-school #2 Canton (3-1, 9-2), also on a four-game winning streak.

Cowanesque Valley (2-2, 5-7) travels to Wyalusing (2-0, 5-1) in the first of four games the Rams have scheduled this week.

Williamson (0-5, 2-6-1) visits Athens (3-3, 4-6). Both teams are looking to end a losing streak - four games for Williamson and three for Athens.

SOFTBALL
North Penn-Liberty (1-3, 3-6) hosts Canton (2-2, 7-4) in a rematch of the Warriors walk-off win over the Mounties three weeks ago.

Williamson (0-2, 1-6) has lost six straight after an opening-day win over NP-Liberty and will travel to Athens (4-1, 9-2).

Cowanesque Valley (2-0, 8-1) has won four straight and averaged over 18 runs per game in those wins, visits Wyalusing (1-0, 2-2) as the Rams attempt to catch up to the rest of the league in games played.

Wellsboro (3-2, 7-3) hosts winless Sayre (0-3, 0-8).

TENNIS
Wellsboro (4-0, 10-1) hosts Towanda (4-1, 8-3). The Hornets swept the Black Knights 5-0 in their previous match this season.
