THE SPORTS REPORTS: 2022 FALL SPORTS ALL-REGION RECOGNITION BEGINS TODAY (2022-12-21)

The Sports Reports
It was another stellar fall season for student-athletes in the Twin Tiers.

We saw another state title for the Corning boys cross country, and the Tioga football teams, as well as Canton’s second straight trip to the PIAA, Class A football semifinals, and Corning volleyball reaching the state final four.

We also saw a number of District 4 and Section IV team title, and even more championship game appearances.

Corning Angie McKane won a pair of state swimming gold medals, and there all-state performers in nearly every sport on both sides of the border, and Section IV and District 4 individual medals almost too numerous to count.

And, The Sports Reports were there to chronicle it all.

With the addition of Northern Tier West Sports Report (Tioga County, Pa.) in March, and Southern Tier Sports Report (Elmira-Corning) this fall, The Sports Reports consists of five sites, and covers 24 school districts in four counties and Corning.

Each site has already recognized its top performers in each sport. Beginning today, The Sports Reports will unveil our All-Regional teams in boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, volleyball, and football.

We will also honor the top coaches of the fall, the top female and male newcomers, and the top female and male athletes of the fall.

For those of you wondering why we won't be doing All-Region teams for girls swimming, golf or tennis, it's simple. Schools in Pa. swim during the winter season, so we will honor the girls and boys swimmers at the conclusion of the winter season. The golf and tennis all-stars will be honored in the spring.

There will also be sports, like field hockey, gymnastics, and lacrosse, that won't have All-Region teams because there simply aren't enough schools in our coverage are competing in those sports.

We will begin the roll out of our All-Region teams today and our fall awards will conclude Tuesday.
