THE SPORTS REPORTS: NP-L's STETTER, WELLSBORO'S LOGSDON EARN ALL-REGION VOLLEYBALL TOP HONORS; TIOGA COUNTY WELL-REPRESENTED (2022-12-24)

The Sports Reports
The coverage area for The Sports Reports witnessed a ton of team successes this past volleyball season, and along with that, some truly outstanding, season-long performances by our local athletes.

The North Penn-Liberty Lady Mounties cruised through the NTL, winning their sixth-straight Large School championship, then won a District IV title to qualify for the Class AA State Championships. The Mounties won their first-round match in States and were eliminated in the State quarterfinals.

Leading the way for NP-Liberty was senior outside hitter Darby Stetter, a two-time All-State selection. The Sports ReportsVolleyball Player of the Year” collected 304 kills on the season (3.3 k/s), and added 303 digs, 175 service points, 48 aces and 305 serve-receptions.

The “Offensive Player of the Year” is Corning’s Jenna DiNardo. The senior led the Lady Hawks to the NY State Final Four with 503 assists, 284 digs, 117 points, 65 kills and 22 aces.

Wellsboro sophomore Paige Logsdon is the “Defensive Player of the Year,” having racked up 121 blocks (1.5 blocks / set) on the season. The Lady Hornet added 98 digs, 161 kills, 130 points and 26 aces.

The “Newcomer of the Year” is Tioga junior Megan Vance. The Lady Tigers went 19-3 and won a Section IV Class D title with Vance collecting 130 service points, 75 kills, and 20 digs on the season.

The "Coaching Staff of the Year" goes to the Tioga Tigers’ Des Ford and assistant coach Rachel VanScoy. Ford directed the Lady Tigers to a Section IV, Class D title — her seventh Section IV title since 2009, and ninth of her career.

Tioga was 15-2 in the regular season, with both losses coming in five sets, then went on to win the overall IAC Small School title, the Section IV, Class D title, and one match in the state playoffs, before falling to defending state champion Mount Academy, which went on to repeat. Tioga finished the season at 19-3..
