THE SPORTS REPORTS: CANDOR'S SOPER, HORSEHEADS' LI NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2022-12-26)

Candor freshman Nicola Soper registered a pair of double-doubles, and Horseheads junior Shoonfon Li had a record-setting day for the Blue Raider swim team. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending Dec. 24.

CANDOR’S SOPER NAMED REGIONAL GIRLS ‘“ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Soper posted a pair of double-doubles for the youthful Candor girls basketball team last week.

Soper scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a 48-33 road loss to Marathon in IAC crossover action Monday.

On Thursday, she contributed 18 points and 18 boards as the Indians won their first game of the season, 54-35, over Otselic Valley Wednesday.

HORSEHEADS’ LI NAMED REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Li set the Horseheads pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.69 in a win over Maine-Endwell. The time, was more than 2 seconds below the state standard, and is the fourth fastest time in the state this year.

Li also won the 100 fly in the meet and he was part of the inning 200 medley relay and the winning 400 free relay.
