DISTRICT IV WRESTLING: WELLSBORO PAIR ELIMINATED EARLY ON DAY 2 OF AA CHAMPIONSHIPS (2023-02-25)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — Wellsboro’s pair of District IV Championship representatives .. Silas Mickey and Ryder Bowen .. each fell in their first-round consolation matches Saturday morning to bring the Hornets’ season to an end.
Mickey (145), who had lost his preliminary round match Friday night by technical fall, fell in 2:32 in his elimination match Saturday morning. His opponent in his first match, Kaden Milheim from Warrior Run, ended up winning the District title at 145 pounds, while Danville’s Kyle Vanden Huevel, who eliminated Mickey from the tourney, placed seventh.
Bowen (160) was pinned in both of his matches at Districts, and both of his opponents qualified for Regionals by placing third and fourth. Bowen lost Friday night to Montgomery’s Coy Bryson in 4:39, then was eliminated from the tournament Saturday morning by Benton’s Evan Brokenshire in 3:53.
Both sophomores, Bowen finishes the season with a 20-8 record and Mickey goes 13-12.
