WILLIAMSPORT — North Penn-Liberty saw three wrestlers medal at the District IV AA Championships here Saturday, but none could crack the top-6 in their weight class to qualify for next week’s Regionals.

Brayden Pequignot (107) and George Valentine (189) each placed 7th for the Mounties, while Riley Oakes (127) took 8th place.

Valentine had the longest road, falling into the consolation bracket with a loss Friday night, that came after a preliminary-round win. Valentine opened Day Two with a 7-0 win over Wyalusing’s Ayden Hunsinger, then lost a close, 3-2 match to eventual 5th-place finisher Jude Bremigen from Southern Columbia. With a pin in his final match against Ryder Zulkowski from Shamokin, Valentine ends his sophomore season with a record of 26-11.

Pequignot entered as the No. 2 seed and had a bye in the preliminary round. The sophomore lost to eventual 3rd-place finisher Aristotelis Bobotas from Montoursville in the quarterfinals, then beat Williamson’s Hunter Simonds in the consolations, lost to 5th-place finisher Manny Stoltzfus and won the 7th-place match 13-2 over Jack Gramly from Mifflinburg. Pequignot finishes his sophomore season with a record of 28-9 and a North Section championship.

Riley Oakes was the Mounties’ final medalist, finishing 8th after losing to Athens’ Cooper Robinson in the 127-pound class. Oakes fell into the consolations with a quarterfinal loss to eventual 3rd-place finisher Nolan Baumert from Line Mountain, then beat Southern Columbia’s Edward Zuber and lost 1-0 to eventual 4th-place finisher Landen Wagner from Lewisburg. Oakes finishes his sophomore season with a record of 27-12.

Two other Mountie wrestlers competed in the consolations Saturday morning after Friday night losses, as sophomore Easton Pequignot was eliminated from the 172-pound class by top-seeded Riley Parker of Canton and freshman Brock Smith lost a 5-1 decision to Midd-West’s Charley Paige. Pequignot finishes his sophomore season with a 19-14 record, while Smith was 20-16.
