HORSEHEADS’ COLE NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM BOYS REGIONAL “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
The
things that Cullen Cole did at the New York State Swimming & Diving
Championships are things that no one at Horseheads had done in nearly
40 years.
Cole became the first state champion swimmer at
Horseheads since 1986 when he won the state and federation titles in the
50-yard freestyle. He also became an automatic All-American with a time
of 20.44 seconds, becoming the school’s first swimming All-American
since 1986.
Cole broke school records in the 50 and 100 free, and
also helped the 200 and 400 free relays break school records. His time
in the 100 free broke a school record that had stood since 1983.
Cole
was fourth in the state in the 100 and the 400 free relay took seventh,
while the 200 free relay was 11th. Cole won three state medals on
Saturday and has won seven in the past two years.

NEB’S KOLESAR NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM GIRLS REGIONAL “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Kolesar,
who wrestles with the Athens girls program, posted a 2-1 record Sunday
at the MyHouse Northeast Regionals to advance to the Pa. state
championships.
Kolesar, the top seed in a rugged 112-pound weight
class, forged a 12-1 major decision in her quarter-final match, then
topped fourth-seeded Tamiah Fegley, 7-4, of Selinsgrove in the
semifinals.
Kolesar dropped a 7-5 decision Milton’s Abigail Moser in the finals.
