PIAA BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES TO MAKE LONG TRIP FOR STATE GAME (2023-03-08)

LANCASTER, PA — The North Penn-Liberty Mounties will open the State playoffs here Friday when they take on undefeated and top-ranked Linville Hill Christian in the first round of the Class A Championship at Manheim Township High School at 7 p.m.

The Warriors of Linville Hill Christian (22-0) won their second straight District 3 Class A title this year, in their sixth season as a program. Last season, Linville went 22-3 and lost to St. John Neumann 60-50 in the State Class A quarterfinals. 

Linville is led in scoring and rebounding by 6’ 3” senior Daniel King and rely heavily on 6’ senior guard Matthew Lapp as the top of their 1-3-1 zone defense.

The Mounties will counter with leading scorer Derek Litzelman, who with 10 points above his 20 ppg average in the game would reach 1,000 points in his career. The senior also leads the Mounties with 8.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game.

Senior Daniel Sherant adds 9.5 points and six rebounds per game for NP-Liberty, who regularly goes eight players or more deep and gets 18-20 points per game from the remainder of their lineup, including Adynn Wheeland, Bryce Boyer, Jackson Brion, Blake Oakley, Brady Stetter, Glenn Oakley, Louis Mercantino, Daniel Harman and Carter Grinnell.

Last year's two Class A finalists .. St. John Neumann and champ Bishop Canevin .. are both in Class AA this season. 

The winner of the game advances to the round of 16 and plays the winner between Bethlehem Christian (14-10) and City School (22-3).
