PIAA BOYS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY FALLS IN STATE PLAYOFF OPENER (2023-03-11)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
MANHEIM TWP, PA — North Penn-Liberty struggled to keep up with Linville Hill Christian here Saturday, falling to the undefeated District 3 champs 74-39, bringing the Mounties' season to an end.

With buckets by Derek Litzelman, Daniel Sherant and Glenn Oakley, the Mounties held an early 6-5 lead, but Linville would finish the quarter on a 16-6 run to take a 21-12 lead into the second quarter.

The Mounties were held to just four points on a Litzelman three and a Sherant free throw in the second quarter, allowing LHC to take a 37-16 lead into the break.

Litzelman came into the game needing 30 points to reach 1,000, but the senior would fall just shy, scoring 17 points to finish with 987 in his phenomenal Mountie career.

Linville opened the second half with an 11-0 run to put the game into the mercy rule and institute a running clock with 4:58 left in the third quarter, and NP-Liberty followed with a 15-5 run to end the frame down 53-31.

A Litzelman three and a pair of free throws and a three by Louis Mercantino would be all the Mounties would score in the fourth, leaving the 74-39 final.

Sherant finished with 14 points in his final game as a Mountie and fellow senior Glenn Oakley added two points. Mercantino had three points and Blake Oakley rounded out North Penn-Liberty's scoring with two points.

The Mounties finish the season with a record of 14-12. Look for a season review soon.
