PIAA BOYS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD TO PLAY SWEET 16 GAME IN SHAMOKIN (2023-03-13)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportCOAL TWP, PA — North Penn-Mansfield will look to extend their championship season as they take on District 11 champ Executive Education Academy Charter School in the Sweet 16 of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs on Wednesday at Shamokin High School.
After finishing the regular season 21-1 with a 20-game win streak and an NTL-I title, the Tigers suffered a pair of upset losses in the Showdown and District finals. They rebounded to earn a hard-fought win over a streaking Delone Catholic team in the first round to enter their Sweet 16 match-up with a record of 25-3.
Executive Education (21-4) won their fifth straight District 11 title .. two as AA, the last three as 3A .. and beat String Theory 69-48 in the first round of the State tournament.
One of the Raptors’ four losses came in their final regular-season game against 6A Williamsport, 65-60.
Executive Education features a pair of towering brothers in 6’ 10” senior Moustapha Sanoh, a Rider commit, and 6’ 8” junior Lamine Sanoh, and sophomore swingman Gabe Hornsberger will look to score for the Raptors as well.
The winner of the game will advance to the State Elite 8 to face the winner between District 12 champ West Catholic (16-10) and District 2 champ Holy Redeemer (26-2).
