WELLSBORO — Senior stand-out student/athlete Cameron Brought recently announced his intention to continue his education and his football career at Alfred University in Alfred, NY.

Brought has had an outstanding athletic career for Wellsboro, excelling not only on the football field but also for the Hornets’ baseball and basketball teams.

As a senior this past season, Brought collected 100 tackles and four sacks for the Hornets and was named First Team All-Tioga County and First Team on The Sports Reports All-Region Team as a defensive lineman. The All-Region Team covers the entire NTL, as well as the Southern Tier of NY State. As a junior, Brought had 93 tackles and two sacks and was named First Team All-Tioga County and Second Team All-Region.

“I was drawn to Alfred for their great engineering program,” Brought, who will major in Mechanical Engineering, said about why he chose AU. “Also, because of the professionalism that they handle their program with.”

The NCAA Division III Saxons went 2-8 last season, 1-5 in the Empire 8, with three losses coming by single digits. Other league teams include St. John Fisher, Morrisville, Utica, Hartwick, SUNY Cortland and SUNY Brockport.

Brought says that the plan is for him to play defensive end, that he is very excited to become a Saxon, and, “I’d like to thank my coaches and my parents for helping me get to where I am today.”
