NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA HANDS WILLIAMSON SEASON-OPENING LOSS (2023-03-22)

TIOGA JUNCTION — A four-run third inning by Towanda would lift the Black Knights to a 10-6 win over the host Williamson Warriors in both teams’ season opener here Wednesday.

Williamson answered Towanda’s first-inning run with one of their own and the game stayed tied 1-1 until Towanda’s big third inning gave the Knights a 5-1 lead. Williamson cut the lead to one run with two runs in the third, and Towanda added a run in the fourth for a 6-3 lead.

After a scoreless fifth inning, each team scored once in their half of the sixth to enter the seventh at 7-4. Towanda extended their lead to six with three runs and Williamson came up short, scoring two runs but falling 10-6.

Cody Fleming had two hits for Williamson, with a double and an RBI, while Ayden Sprague (double), Loagan Stickler (double), Jack Nolan and Christian Ling each had a hit. Stickler and Erik Berkan each scored twice, while Sprague and Connor Monroe each scored once.

Berkan went four innings for Williamson, allowing six runs .. three earned .. on seven hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Sawyer Carlton threw two and two-third innings and surrendered four earned runs on four hits, seven walks and three K’s. Sprague threw a third of an inning and had a walk and a strikeout.

Williamson (0-1) is scheduled to visit Wellsboro next Tuesday.
