WESTFIELD — Cowanesque Valley junior Laynie LaBarron threw a three-inning no-hitter and the Lady Indians sent 16 batters to the plate over the first two at-bats and routed the Lady Tigers 18-0 in both squads’ season-opening game.

LaBarron struck out nine, walked none and allowed just three baserunners .. on an error, a fielder’s choice and one hit batter. 

CV sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, using three walks, a Galeton fielding error, seven passed balls and two wild pitches to take an early 6-0 lead.

In the second inning the Lady Indians collected seven base hits and took advantage of nine more Galeton passed balls to send 12 runs across and take an 18-0 lead.

Logan Hamilton led the Lady Indians at the plate with a double, a triple, three RBI and three runs scored, while Maddie Millard had a double and two runs scored and Katie Adams, Ashley Woodring, Mak Surine and Ella Churchill all added base hits. 

Woodring had three RBI and scored three times, while Surine had a pair of RBI and scored three runs, Churchill had an RBI and Adams had an RBI and a run scored. Keyana Thomas reached base twice on a dropped third strike and scored twice, while Ruby Sherman scored two runs and Tabbitha Piper and Madison Huzey scored once each.

The Lady Indians, 1-0, are scheduled to return to action Friday when they host Athens.
