NTL SOFTBALL: LADY INDIANS SCRATCH OUT WIN OVER WILDCATS (2023-03-24)

WESTFIELD — Mak Surine threw a two-hit shutout through four innings and the Lady Indians manufactured three runs to hold off the visiting Lady Wildcats and win their second game to start the season, 3-1.

Surine earned the win and had five strikeouts and two walks, while Ruby Sherman earned the save, throwing three innings and allowing one run on four hits and two walks with four K’s.

After a scoreless first inning, CV got on the board when Maddie Millard doubled to lead off the second inning, stole third and scored on a groundout off the bat of Surine. 

In the third, Ella Churchill led off with a single and would eventually score on an Ashley Woodring ground out, giving CV a 2-0 lead that lasted til the fifth inning when Athens plated their lone run of the game.

The Lady Indians answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Sherman walked and scored on an Adams’ triple.

Churchill (single), Millard (double) and Adams (triple) had CV’s three hits, with Adams adding an RBI and Millard, Churchill and Sherman each scoring a run.

The Lady Indians move to 2-0 on the young season with the win. They are scheduled to return to play Tuesday at Towanda.
