A five-run fourth inning for Canton gave them a 7-3 lead as they headed to the fifth inning, where Wellsboro would rally and send 13 batters to the plate to score seven runs and take a 10-7 lead. 

Brock Hamblin led off the top of the fifth with a double for Wellsboro and was followed by both Gabe Sprouse and Marek Mascho getting hit by a pitch and a walk by Drayden McGee. Singles by Lucas Cuneo and Caden Smith, walks by Conner Adams, Hamblin and Mascho and Alec Magli getting hit by a pitch resulted in the Hornets’ seven run inning.

Cameron Brought took over on the mound for Wellsboro starter Caden Smith and threw the final three innings, allowing no runs and two hits with six strikeouts. Smith earned the win with four innings pitched, allowing seven runs (six earned), seven hits and three walks with three K’s.

Wellsboro added four insurance runs in the seventh as Brought and Sprouse both reached base on Canton errors and Hamblin and Mascho each drew walks in the final frame.

Canton took an early 1-0 lead into the third inning when Adams delivered a two-out single and was followed by a Brought walk and a two-run single by Hamblin, giving the Hornets a 2-1 lead.

Canton answered with a run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at two and Wellsboro pulled back ahead when Mascho reached on an error in the fourth and later scored on a groundout off Smith’s bat. 

The Warriors then had their big, five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, setting up the Wellsboro comeback.

Hamblin had a single, a double, two RBI and scored twice, while Adams, Brought, Smith and Cuneo each had a base hit. 

Cuneo added an RBI and a run scored, while Brought scored twice, Smith had three RBI and scored a run and Adams scored once.

Gabe Sprouse scored twice and had an RBI, while Magli had an RBI and scored once, Mascho scored three runs, Ryder Bowen had an RBI and McGee scored a run.

Wellsboro, 1-0, is scheduled to host their home opener on Tuesday against Williamson.
