NTL TRACK & FIELD: WILLIAMSON LOOKS TO BUILD ON SUCCESSFUL '22 SEASON (2023-03-26)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION — Coming off of a historic 2022 season, and with a strong core of the athletes who made the season possible returning, the Williamson Track & Field teams are excited to get started in ’23.

“Our boys’ team won it's first NTL title in program history,” Coach Aaron Wooster says, “We had three individuals advance to the state meet .. as well as the 4x800 meter relay team, who earned a silver medal at states. Each of those four boys from that relay team is returning this season.”

The 4x800 relay team .. seniors Nathaniel Welch and Duncan Kerr and juniors Owen Cummings and Kristian Mizdail .. will join fellow returners Ean Bump, Fletcher Good, Stephen Gohr and Elias Kaufman in seeking a second NTL title.

Wooster points to a quartet of newcomers as possible immediate contributors in Brady Colwell, Jeremy Fuhrer, Carsyn Kemp and Luke Sottolano, and hopes to fill some holes with these and/or other new faces to the program.

“On the boys’ side, we’ll need to find someone to step up to fill some sprinter spots,” Wooster says, “as well as middle distance and in the pole vault.”

With a roster of 45 athletes .. and the strong core of returners .. Wooster and the Warriors have reasonable expectations for the season.

“We’d like to claim our second league title,” Wooster says, “and increase the number of athletes we take to districts and states. We also believe they can finish in the top three in team scores at Districts.”

A young Williamson girls’ team didn’t fare as well as the boys last season, finishing 4-3, but Wooster points to returners Kyra Daley, Jade Colwell and Tori Stratton and newcomers Anna Lee and Regan VanGordon as athletes to keep an eye on as 27 Lady Warriors look for improvement in ’23.

“Our girls team was still pretty young last year,” Wooster says, “but we did gain a lot of experience throughout the season, and we're hoping you'll see that with more girls earning a spot at districts this year.”

Williamson will open their season on Tuesday with a trip to Wyalusing. The Rams’ girls’ team finished 7-1 last year, while the boys were 5-12.
