NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON ROUTS WELLSBORO FOR FIRST WIN (2023-03-28)

WELLSBORO — Williamson pounded out 14 hits .. including a grand slam by freshman Kenna Thomas .. to run away from the host Lady Hornets here Tuesday for a 22-3, four-inning win.

Mikenna Buchanan earned the win for Williamson, throwing the complete-game three hitter and allowing three runs with three walks and six strikeouts. 

Lexi Urena took the loss for Wellsboro, allowing 11 runs in an inning and a third on two hits and seven walks with four strikeouts. Rylie Boyce would throw the final two and two thirds and surrendered 11 runs on eight hits and five walks with one K.

Williamson scored five runs in the first inning, six in the second and 11 in the fourth and final frame. Wellsboro scored one in the third and two in their last at-bat.

Thomas added a single and a double to her fourth-inning grand slam and scored three times for the Lady Warriors. Payton Blend had three hits and scored three runs, while Kaegan Short, Hailie Penner and Peyton Wheaton each had a pair of base hits. 

Bailee Smith had a double and scored three runs, while Buchanan and Short each scored three runs, Penner and Wheaton scored twice each and Gracie Stephens had a base hit and scored three runs.

For Wellsboro, Urena had a double and scored two runs, while Maddi Bordas, Molly Ingerick, Carolyn Warner and Jordyn Abernathy each had a base hit and Abernathy scored once.

Williamson evens their record at 1-1 on the young season with their first win, while Wellsboro falls to 0-2. Both are scheduled to return to action Thursday .. Williamson at home with NP-Liberty and Wellsboro at NEB.
